(February 21, 2012) – SUNY Cobleskill will offer a bachelor's of science degree in Applied Psychology starting in fall 2012. The new curriculum allows the College to meet the demand of current and future students with a desire to pursue a bachelor's in psychology.

 

The Applied Psychology degree will educate students on theory and application of psychology and research, and provide direct applied experience via 15 credits of internship placement. The program, the only one in New York State with a Rural/Community Psychology concentration, will prepare students to enter the workforce at the paraprofessional level.

 

"This program has so much promise for students who are interested inworking in agencies and organizations that make a real difference in people's lives," said Dr. Amy Corbett, professor of psychology at SUNY Cobleskill. "The program offers streamlined coursework, a choice of concentration in either Community/Rural Psychology or Organizational Psychology, and applied experience via internships."

 

Applied Psychology students will experience shared core theoretical coursework during their first two years and then choose a concentration – Rural/Community or Industrial/Organizational – that meets individual career goals. The Rural/Community concentration focuses on advocacy or advancement in community environments such as family and children, youth, drugs and alcohol, and poverty. The Industrial/Organization track centers on business, organizational psychology, organizational communication, and markets.
